| Note | Page 162 of the 1949 history of the Vrooman Family shows Joseph's first wife as Elizabeth E. Chapman whom he married May 17, 1845. It says that she was a writer and a very fine woman and that she died at Nunda, New York, on October 2, 1869. The 1860 census shows her as Abby E. Vrooman, age 35. Since two of her children are living with Smith and Emma Chapman in the 1870 census, and there was in the household a Mary Chapman age 51, daughter to Smith and Emma, and who is described as Grace's aunt in the 1910 census, we must believe that Smith and Emma are the parents of Elizabeth Chapman.
Thus far, no further information has been found about Elizabeth. |
