Eugene was born in Michigan and Carrie in Canada. The name of the minister is quite faded, but may be Geo. L. Grant. The witnesses were Lawrence and May Cavender, both of Croton. |
| Note | According to the 1860 and 1870 censuses at Croton, Newaygo, Michigan, Eugene is the son of Dennis Cavender and Mary E. Cavender. The 1860 census greatly misstates Mary's age, 22, showing her as much younger than she will likely be. The 1870 census is likely the more accurate, showing her age as 46, and, in which case, she will be the mother of the children present. Dennis and Mary are shown as being born in Leoni, Jackson, New York, at the time of the 1850 census. Mary's age of 25 compares well with her age at the time of the 1870 census. |
