The following marriage registration is, emminently, not very readable. Mrge. reg. 008460-99 Ridgetown, Kent Co. Fred Church, 28, bachelor, farmer. Methodist. Parents 'Stadick' and Rose. Born Essex Co., residing 'Cotam'. Lizzie Moss, 19, spinster, Methodist. Parents 'Unni and Bella. Born Wallacetown. Witnesses: Emily Burdett and Nellie Story, both of Ridgetown. On January 18, 1899, at Ridgetown, by C. Burdett. The handwriting of the clerk is difficult, but it does appear that he had difficulty making out the clergyman's handwriting, at least in terms of the names of the fathers. One witness was evidently a member of the clergyman's family. Looking at the 1901 census at Ridgetown and comparing the name of the witness that has been partly punched out for a binder prong, it's reasonable to say that her given name was Emily. The clergyman was Chaney Burdett. The name of Lizzie's father on the registration is well written. Add to that, Fred and Lizzie had a son they named Unni. |

The dates of registration for births in Dunwich Township on this particular page are all over the map. It may be that there were few registrations that year. Dr. Ling did not file the registration until November 11 of 1882, 11 months after the birth - if the year of birth written on the form is correct. Since, however, December 2, 1881, is written as Mary's date of birth on her death registration, this is probably correct. Death reg. 014401-35 Leamington, Essex Co.
