Date of registration August 31, 1892. All later records for Isabella, including her name as it appears on her gravestone in Kirkwall Cemetery, shows her as Isabella. Township clerk Wallace McDonald's handwriting can be difficult to read, but in this case his writing is clear enough. He was probably reading from someone else's handwriting. The cemetery at Kirkwall was evidently the Paterson family's cemetery of choice. Isabella's parents, Ritchie Paterson and Jennet Thompson are buried there. John A. Cornell, in 1921, published his work The First Church of Beverly. This in large measure dealt with the history of the church at Sheffield. Chapter XVII (page 81) discusses the history of the Presbyterian Church at Kirkwall. (Kirkwall lies between Safari Road and Regional Road 97. The church is at the intersection of Concession Road 8 West.) Cornell places the first five families that came from Scotland and settled at Kirkwall as arriving in August of 1832. One of the families was that of John Frier. With that in mind, we will note here that, according to a transcription of burials that we find in Kirkwall Cemetery, we may say that Isabella was a great grand daughter of the John Frier who appears in Cornell's history.
