|Note||We have no certain record of William Hood's place of birth. At the time of his parents marriage, his father was resident in Essa Township in what was then the Simcoe District, later Simcoe County and this is probably where William was born.|
The 1901 census shows his date of birth as 3 May, 1843. Were this correct it would mean that William was born two days after his parents marriage. The death index provided by a Manitoba Vital Statistics webpage dates his death to July 3, 1908, and shows his age as 65. Considering that the 1901 census was begun on 31 March, but that we can probably say that William was born in May of the year, then it's much the more likely that William was born in 1844.
