Elizabeth Buey
ID # 6431, (1845-1935)
| Father | John Buey (1818-) |
| Mother | Katherine Osterhout (1823-) |
| Baptism | Elizabeth Buey was baptized on 23 February 1845 at Niagara Township, Niagara District, Canada West. |
| Marriage | She married Henry Putman, son of Jacob Putman and Rebecca Young. A marriage registration for Henry Putman and Elizabeth Buey has not been found. The Buey family was apparently in the Lewiston, New York, area, just across the Niagara River, by the time Henry and Andrew Putman married sisters Elizabeth and Sarah. Mary Buey, Elizabeth and Sarah's sister, was evidently back in Niagara Township by 1880, for she married Jacob Putman, the brother of Henry and Andrew, who had been widowed some five years. |
| Death | She died on 11 September 1935 at Queensville, Twp. of East Gwillimbury, York Co., at age 90. |
| Burial | She was buried on 14 September 1935 at St. Marks Anglican Cemetery, Niagara-on-the-Lake. |
| Note | The Niagara branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society transcribed St. Mark's Anglican Cemetery at Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1990. This shows that Elizabeth is buried with her husband Henry Putman. It tells that her year of death was 1925. This is in error. She died in 1935. The Niagara Falls (New York) Gazette on its Canadian News page (page ten) in the 15 August 1931 edition tells of the Putman family reunion at Queenston Heights. It tells that Elizabeth Putman, age 86, widow of Henry, was present. The February 25, 1935, edition of the same paper (page twelve) describes Elizabeth's 90th birthday (yes, there is an age discrepancy between the two articles) and mentions her marriage to Henry, but also that she was the daughter of John H. Bouey. The above pages may be found via the newspaper search engine on the website for Old Fulton New York Postcards. Elizabeth's death registration gives a fuller story: Death reg. 039653-35 Queensville, Township of East Gwillimbury, York Co. Elizabeth Putman died September 11, 1935, at her residence in Queensville. Widowed. Born Niagara Township. Born 23rd February 1845. Age 90 years, 6 months, 20 days. Length of residence at place of death 5 or 6 years. Parents John Bouey and Katherine Ousterhut, both born Niagara. Informant Robert Putman, son, Queensville. Burial September 14th at Niagara-on-the-Lake. We will note here that the 90th birth celebration for Elizabeth was evidently held at Queenston and states that this was where she was residing. The death registration places her residence at Queensville. That the celebration was at Queenston is no doubt correct, but the reporter who wrote the story probably confused Queenston and Queensville when ascribing her residence. |
