See Vol. 10 of Donald A. McKenzie's work, Obituaries from the Christian Guardian, 1884-1890, Global Heritage Press, 2011, page 388. This presents an obituary for Richard, telling that he was born in Devonshire, England. His date of birth is not given, but tells that he went from England to Co. Antrim in Ireland where he married a Sarah Ann Hamil and worked as a gardener. He is said to have come to Canada with his brother Henry in 1846 (Henry's obituary says they came to Canada in 1842). He is said to have remained in Kingston for two years and then come to Queenston where he worked as a gardener until he could buy a farm of his own. The obituary states that he is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls and this is the case, for the Niagara branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society records his stone in Section B of the cemetery. The City of Niagara Falls Cemeteries records this as well with a photograph of the side of the stone showing Richard's name. The date of the photograph is not given, but it is probably fairly recent. The stone is in poor shape and unreadable for much of the surface. It was thus when the OGS transcription was done and not readable on all points. The salient information, however, does appear on Richard's death registration.
An index for Morse Funeral Homes indicates that Richard's funeral was held on May 10, 1886.
