Oxford County Marriage Register

Extracted from a list of marriages solemnized by Rev. S. Belcher, incumbent, St. Johns, Thamesford, for the half year ending June 31st, 1869.

The county marriage registrations do not typically tell the marriage location. Since both Thomas and Eugenia resided in East Nissouri Township and St. Johns Anglican church was located in Thamesford, which is located in East Nissouri, it seems probable that at the least East Nissouri was the location of the marriage.

A record of birth or baptism for Thomas has not been found. He does appear with his parents, William and Isabella, in Blenheim Township, Oxford County, in the 1851 and 1861 censuses. As well he states William and Isabella to his parents in all three of his marriage registrations. His date of birth as shown, 21 December, 1845, and this is to be found in the 1901 census at St. Marys. This also tells that he came to Canada in 1848 (we must believe with his family.) Since he was born late in 1845, he does not appear with his family in Bunkle, Berwickshire, Scotland, in the 1841 census. The 1901 census wherein it shows Thomas in St. Marys, Perth County, Ontario, tells that the family came to Canada in 1848. That he was born in Berwick seems logical, but it is his marriage registration to Sarah Horsman that confirms that he was born in Berwick.

A note to do with Thomas's children by Eugenia, Sarah and Caroline.

The list of the earlier children is taken mainly from census information and is probably not complete. Information for the first child, Isabella, is problematic. See Isabella's notes.
