Hugh Keachie
ID # 6744, (1792-1862)
| Baptism | Hugh Keachie was baptized in 1792 at United States. |
| Marriage | He married Mary Ann Hope McLaren. |
| Death | He died on 5 November 1862 at Brantford, Brant Co., Canada West. |
| Burial | He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery, Brantford, Brant Co., Canada West. |
| Note | See notes for Hugh's son-in-law Andrew Hoagg. Hugh and Mary are probably in Burford Township or at least the area as of 1838. Certainly, daughter Margaret is shown as resident in Burford Township at the time she appears in her marriage bond in 1839. John McClure Keachie is recorded there, though records found do appear to place him there in rather later years - the 1850s and onwards.
Hugh and Mary Keachie are in Galt, North Dumfries, Canada West, as of the 1851 census (begun in January of 1852). He is shown as 58 and she is shown as 54. With them are daughter Mary, age 23, and son Markus, age 13.
Rosemary Ambrose transcribed death notices from this era from the Dumfries Reformer of Galt. The 12 November, 1862, edition tells that Hugh died at Brantford on 5 November, 1862. Considering that son Marcus' inscription has an error, it does appear that these entries were not made on the family stone until later years. |
