Henry Dockham, minister, Methodist Episcopal Church, in the County of York, in 1853 On Sept. 6th, 1853 George Bennet of Trafalgar and Maria Butler of Whitchurch. No other information is given. Witnesses are not named. Parentage is not shown, though since Trafalgar Township was in Halton and Whitchurch in York, the marriage was probably held close to where the bride resided. Although the old administrative Districts no longer existed, the new counties came into being around 1850. It wasn't until around 1858 that the new county marriage register books came into use. Maria's obituary tells that she married George in 1858, but the above record showing an 1853 marriage will be correct. |
