ID # 3963, (1790-1861)
BirthSamuel Wood was born on 25 July 1790 at Lime, Vermont.
MarriageHe married Charlotte Kirkpatrick in 1811.
Samuel and Charlotte were both living as of the 1861 census as enumerated in Beverly Township. Their marriage year is shown as 1811. The place of marriage is not given.

DeathHe died on 3 November 1861 at age 71.
BurialHe was buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Beverly Township, Wentworth Co..
NoteFor the moment it isn't clear just when the Wood family came to Beverly Township. They don't appear in the 1832 township assessment. Samuel Wood does appear in the 1839 assessment. He is shown to have the north half of lot 31 on the 1st concession and the south half of lot 31 on the 2nd concession. George Wood is listed next on lot 25 of the 1st concession with some unreadable fraction on the north half. This might be the George Wood who died July 10, 1855, aged 25 yrs., 3 mos., and 1 day. This only works, however, if the inscription of George's stone was worn at the time of transcription and that he was older than shown.

The abstract index for concession 1, lot 31, shows Samuel Wood purchasing the north half of this lot on 8th April, 1840. This is not necessarily inconsistent with the foregoing. The family may have been in residence on the property, perhaps leasing, in 1839, hence Samuel's presence in the 1839 assessment. He then purchased the property in 1840. The abstract index for concession 2, lot 31, is not presently to hand.

The 1842 Beverly census shows both Samuel Wood and (presumeably) son Lewis in the township.

The abstract index for C1-L25 Beverly does show in 1837 Edmund Wood purchasing 4-1/2 acres of the property.

For a family background on the Wood family we refer to A History of the People of Troy, 1947, The Women's Institute of Troy, Ontari, page 31. The tree presented deals mainly with the family of Samuel and Charlotte's son Lewis, but makes mention of Edmund who married Miss Marter and Peter who married Lucinda Lawrason. Nine children are listed in the Troy History tree, but three children who went to early graves are listed in Copetown Cemetery. Roxana, who died at a young age in 1841 probably makes a list of ten children. George M. and Charles P., both buried in Copetown, are probably Martin and Philip as shown in the Troy history's list of children. A Martin and Philip have not been found later.
