| Father | Garrett Howell (1762-1833) |
| Mother | Sarah Thatcher (1767-1837) |
| Baptism | Esther Ann Howell was baptized on 30 October 1812 at Ancaster Township, Home District, Upper Canada. |

Donald McKenzie's Vol. 2, Death Notices from the Christian Guardian, 1851-1860, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now of Ottawa), page 22. Esther Ann's obituary tells that she married John Bennett in 1841. See notes for Esther Ann. |
| Death | She died on 28 September 1857 at Jersey Settlement at age 44. |
| Burial | She was buried at Jerseyville Cemetery, Ancaster Twp.. |
| Note | The list of the children of Garrett Howell as it appears on page 246 of Volume 1 of Ancaster's Heritage omits Esther Ann Howell, born in 1812. See the top of page 16 of Appendix of Additions and Amendments in the reprinted copy, which is to hand. This includes Esther Ann as a daughter of Garrett Howell, and, hence, Sarah Thatcher. Beyond this, we have Esther Ann's obituary as it appeared in the Christian Guardian edition of April 14, 1858, pages 110-111.This has been transcribed by Rev. Donald McKenzie and appears in his work, Vol. 2, Death Notices from the Christian Guardian, 1851-1860, Global Heritage Press, Milton (now of Ottawa). This identifies Esther Ann as the youngest daughter of Garret Howell and tells that she was born in Ancaster Township. She died in Jersey (that is to say the Jersey Settlement) on September 28, 1857, in her 44th year and tells that she was buried beside her parents. She is said to be survived by her husband and children. We show Esther Ann as having died in the Jersey Settlement. This isn't precise. The Jersey Settlement could be said to have straddled portions of Ancaster, Beverly, and Dumfries townships. She may well have died in Beverly Township. Certainly, she and John are buried in Jerseyville Cemetery in Ancaster. This is confirmed by the transcription of this cemetery as done by the Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. |
