BaptismJoseph Southworth Perine was baptized on 3 October 1820 at Jackson, Washington Co., New York State.
MarriageHe married Rhoda Woodruff on 24 October 1860 at Niagara Falls, Niagara County, New York.
For the moment, the best information available for the marriage of Joseph Perine and Rhoda is to be found in the 7 November, 1860, edition of the Dumfries Reformer of Galt. This tells that Mrs. R. C. Woodruff married J. S. Perine on October 24, 1860, at Niagara Falls, New York. The clergyman was Rev. Alex McColl. The groom was of Baden and the bride of Niagara.

Obviously, Woodruff is not Rhoda's maiden name. This remains to be found.

MarriageHe married Sarai Smith on 15 October 1879 at Doon, Waterloo Twp., Waterloo County.

Sarai Smith, 43, spinster, Presbyterian. Born State of New York, residing Doon. Parents Christopher Smith and Rhoda D. C. Chambellin.
Witnesses A. Forester, Doon, and Mrs. M. A. Clark, May Falls, N.Y.
On October 15th, 1879, at Doon, by George Haigh, Presbyterian Clergyman.

Doon Presbyterian Church was a two-point charge with St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Hespeler. George Haigh was minister to this two point charge. He must have hung his hat in Hespeler, for that is where he returned the registration of marriage. There was a town clerk to receive such matters at Hespeler, but not at Doon. For Doon, typically the registration would have been filed with the clerk of Waterloo Township. That it was filed in Hespeler would under most circumstances be termed unusual, but Haigh probably did this regularly enough.

The bride's given name is shown as Sarai. The October 22 edition of the Niagara Falls Gazette (in Niagara Falls, New York) also carries a brief notice of the marriage. This shows her given name to be Sarai. See notes for Sarai.

His name does appear on the Sizer gravestone in New London, Connecticut, and on the same side of the gravestone as Harriet's name. No date of death for Joseph is provided on the Sizer stone.
